On this day in 1933, prohibition was repealed, much to the joy of most everyone. The temperance movement and bootleggers were notably saddened. Can't make everyone happy I guess. Interesting note, the Seattle PI noted that the downtown bars were rather quiet on the night of the repeal, I suppose for many Americans there wasn't much to celebrate, because after all they had been drinking all along.Monday, December 5, 2011
