And Then the Dark Cloud Descended Upon the Presidents

Something tells me these stone faced gentlemen can weather the storm.

PS - I wonder if anyone ever has attempted to carve a big John Wilkes Booth in the neighborhood?

The Lonely Hi-way

In previous posts we have discussed lonely Hi-way and its draw. I've always have been drawn to the road, and mostly due to a careful and proper up-bringing, I have not skirted my responsibilities to take off running down it. I've been working at the unpleasant hour of 5 AM lately and its those quiet drives to Bellevue which are the hardest. It has taken a bit of time to understand why, but I have got it now, for the majority of my life setting out to drive someplace at 4:30 AM would be the start of an adventure. Now its to pay a mortgage. Damn my careful and proper up-bringing. Oh well, life is good, even if driving to work at 4:30 AM is not. In honor of the nagging feeling to keep on driving, here are Lonely Hi-way photos taken by me.

Sunset on the Lonely Hi-way

Today's photo comes from Wyoming, it is very nice example of the "Lonely Hi-way." It is quite a shot.

Family on a Pale Horse

One may say that not all these horses are pale. One may say that not all who ride are family, in fact one may say not all have riders. But you must admit that a horse, is a horse, of course and that excessive and silly references to pop culture or otherwise have very likely rendered this blog entry trite.
That having been said, fear not oh brave readers of this, America's finest blog, the photos will save this entry from the words of the blogger and triteness in general.

A Nice Photo

I don't really have anything to say about this photo, other than its simply a nice subject and nice shot. This was taken on the ferry to Seattle (the Kalakala??), the girl in the white dress is my mom.
Have a nice weekend.

I'm not Laughing with You...

This photo is from a series of shots of Girls Scouts eating ice cream bars and roller skating. Why you ask then photos of boys? Maybe the 1940's were more progressive than we have been led to believe.

Girl at Waterfall

Okay back to the old stuff and this is old. Today's photo is of Sheppards Dell Falls, Or, circa 1930. It's a nice serene photo that I found in a store in Kirkland. Oh, and I may be wrong about the name of the falls, so if you happen to know which falls this happens to be, shout it out.

The Feral Boy of Lake Kachess

Well I know I've more or less dedicated this blog to older photographs and mediums other than digital, and I promise to get back to that real soon. Since this is my blog and since very few people read it, I can do whatever I want and today I want to show you a picture of my son, the Feral Boy of Lake Kachess. This was truly a dusty moment. We had a great time out at Lake Kachess, even if it was 100 degrees. Thanks to Cicely for making this thing work out so gosh darned well. We are all looking forward to next year, especially the feral child locked inside of Quincy. I have put together a Picasa Album of the weekend so check it out. http://picasaweb.google.com/rustedvan Enjoy

Pictures of FDR

You may have not been able to vote for him, but you can have your picture taken with him, well at least with his giant head. The first photo is of my uncle from the early 1950's, the second and third are from a couple weeks ago. That's right its the Artist with an apple. FDR's giant head is located at the Grand Coulee Dam, its the mightiest thing built by a man, the dam not FDR's giant head.

Vacation Time - The Motel Pool

Here are a few pictures of a motel swimming pool, circa 1957 or 1958. My guess is that this is pool is localed in Sacramento, CA, but it also could be San Francisco. Anyway it looks like good times.

Me at a Young Age

These pictures are from my parents slides, however I really cannot recall ever seeing them before. That said I can remember family slide nights back in the early 1970's, so I have probably seen these photos but not sense Ford fell down the stairs, and what can I say my memories from prior to Kindergarten are spotty at best. I'm guessing these photos come from my first 6 weeks on this rock.

Camping

Oh what fun it is, to go camping with your friends and their families. It's an age old story of getting back to nature and drinking beer. So in honor of this coming weekend's version of camping here are a few old timey camping photos. It seems it was colder in the old days, maybe Al Gore is right.

Anniversary

Cicely and I got married 6 years ago today, so its a very special day. I can say that I'm a very lucky guy to have found such a wonderful person, wife and mother. It's impossible to think my life could be better without her. She is my soul mate. Maybe if coach had put me in the big game we could have a hot tub, as well. Anyway here are some wedding photos of that day. The photographer was Debra Gerth. Check her out here, http://www.debgerthphoto.com/

Ladies at Cottage Grove

An earlier post shows the men hard at work digging clams at Cottage Grove. What do the ladies do while the men dig?
Look fabulous of course.
Again, I'd love to hear from somebody that can tell me where this Cottage Grove is.
