Happy Birthday Bridge

After a long week and Halloween festivities what better way to end the weekend than talking about a pony type Pratt truss bridge on the old Sunset Highway (yet another example of why this is America's finest blog). I can also tell you that it is through truss style as well, since traffic flows the same the bottom chords, really fun stuff. If you are interested in learning more about truss bridges check out Wikipedia, and know that I envy you, as you have much more free time than I do. Our birthday bridge was completed on this date back in 1914, just in time no doubt for the road to be closed for the season. Snoqualmie Pass did not stay open to traffic year round until the early 1930's, and by that time our bridge had been bypassed and left to the forest service. The bridge still is used today by folks that like old roads and those who are going to camp at Denny Creek or hike to Franklin Falls. Our bridge also has made it to the National Register of Historic places, seems that there aren't that many bridges like this left.
