A Missing Link

Back on this day in 1966, the Astoria-Melger Bridge opened finalizing the ribbon of concrete from Olympia to the Mexican Border.  This replaced the ferry that ran from Astoria to Melger and also basically doomed Melger.  This is a long and big bridge, in Astoria it dwarfs the town and is visable everywhere in town.  As a kid I remember seeing it in the Guiness Book of World records and thought that it was really cool.  I remember going accross the bridge for the first time with my Grandparents and thinking it wasn't so cool.   Even today, I am not the biggest fan of accrossing the bridge, especially if the wind is blowing.

Then take the ferry just a few miles east and only $5. Your fear of windy bridges sounds like mom's fear of Vantage.
